Blog nr.1, July 2015
I am not yet sure whether a monthly blog from the Managing Director would be in any way useful, but I will give it a try. Just let me know if you would like me to continue or that I better stop. One of the more relevant recent events for Orange House Partnership was the refurbishing of its website which was timely according to AIM, our excellent Italian web manager since my retirement as Scientific Director from EFSA in 2008: a 7 years old web structure is considered archaic! There is still quite some work to do on the “projects overview” and “highlights” pages of the drop-down button mentioning “projects, reports and documents”.
What’s more: the 5th Joint Meeting of the Management Boards of the Orange House Partnership (OHP) and the Orange House Trust Fund Foundation (OHTFF) respectively, was held at the OHP office in Brussels on 8th May. The meeting was very successful and agreed that assisting the Ukraine government in developing food safety legislation, and assisting the University of Khartoum, Sudan in its efforts to establish a high quality food safety programme, should be the spearhead activities of OHP for the next year.
Unfortunately, the application of a consortium of 6 parties, led by OHP in response to the EU tender on assisting the Moldovian authorities in establishing a food safety authority was not considered by the Commission’s selection committee as it had arrived well after the deadline for submissions. Who could have guessed that sending a dossier by PosteItaliane as registered express mail with proof of delivery would take 25 days to arrive at the EU delegation in Moldova? As this is a project with a substantial budget and, moreover, since all parties of the consortium had spent substantial time on its preparation, we are now in the process of charging PosteItaliane for expenses made and more! Obviously we needed the help of an excellent lawyer. I will keep you posted on any progress!
